As 2022 comes to an end,
2022 has been a year of introversion and reflection. My in-depth body of work ‘Simply Kat’ is finally reaching its conclusion. The first painting I completed in January 2016, the last December 2022.
7 years, 58 art works, a book, a solo show in 2021 – and in 2023 – the follow up exhibition ‘Simply Kat, The Missing Chapter: An inquiry into the spirit of self and resilience’ will be showing at Sjøholmen Kunst og Kulturhus, Bærum (Oslo) during the summer.
Every piece in the Simply Kat series is a journey within itself as well as part of a larger exploration. What does it mean to be I, You, Us? The paintings come out of and flow into each other. They are all connected in the same way we are all connected. Anchored simultaneously in the past, the present, the future. Both conscious and unconscious. Controlled - in a way - while also free.
How are we shaped by our past experiences? Can an art practice transform our understanding of the world and the way we see and experience things? How do we process and experience the sometimes-debilitating nuances of love and grief? Can art create a common consciousness that will strengthen our interpersonal relationships and contribute to bringing society forward in a sustainable way?
These are just some of the questions I have been exploring through my work.
Art Labs, Retreats, and my workshops for adults.
To those of you who have reached out to me, asking when I will be reinstating Art Lab, next offering a retreat, or inquiring whether I will be coming on tour again – I thank you. Deeply.
While I have been deliberately quiet for a while now, I too have missed my work with adults and the wonderful energy we created. Although I do not yet know what form it will take, I do know that 2023 will see my work for and with adults return (updates will be posted on my web page and SOME).
