2024 has seen me inviting others – specifically women – to join me in my space. The response to my ‘Art Research Labs For Women: Oslo 2024’ has been astonishing. So beautiful. So inspiring. My labs for women will be continuing in 2025, in Oslo and elsewhere….

Self Led Pigment Safari's 2024
A large part of my practice involves researching the pigments from which I make my paint. I am currently working with the ancient pigments, gaining a deeper understanding of them from both a scientific and historical aspect, and how these relate to the female psyche. My thirst to absorb more knowledge has taken me on a ‘self-led pigment safari’, exploring the wild landscape and ochres of the Luberon region in the South of France (June 2024)

Inviting others into my space …

Walking into 2024
Breaking cycles.
2023 was both an ending and a beginning. A transition. A cycle of disfunction going back generations now firmly broken. Acutely aware of what this has cost – demanded – and still requires - of me, and I find myself wondering if it is worth it. Seeing my - now adult – children thrive, and my answer is yes. Witnessing the shift in people who have joined my workshops, and my answer is yes. Noticing the way people respond to my art, and my answer is yes.

Reflecting on another conversation …
This time the topic that came up is galleries and exhibition spaces. A topic that fascinates me (I am currently doing an evening course on the psychology of art & exhibitions) – though the conversation is one that stems from life – not the course.
It came to my attention that some artists have shunned a gallery that I personally love …

ArtCHAT with Kat: Feb 2015 to Sept 2023
I received a message this week from one of my former art pupils / ArtCHAT participant that reads “In Italy. At an art exhibition, saw this and thought of you! You continue to inspire me so much!!” – which is so validating, though not for the reasons you may assume.

“Visual notes” by Kat Hagen
A glimpse into my field work - work done during a 4 week residency in Iceland 01.01.-31.01.23. My recordings of ‘Keynotes’ from the soundscape have been juxtaposed with ‘sketches’ (photos) of the tactile, fixed yet fluid, ever changing dynamics of the landscape in the creation of my series of ‘Visual Notes’.
These notes will form the base of a large-scale painting/installation which I will start developing over the coming months.
